An Ghaeilge San Ollscoil

NUIGTá áit faoi leith ag an nGaeilge i saol Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh. Sa chéad dul síos, tá dualgas reachtúil ar an Ollscoil faoin Acht a ritheadh sa bhlian 1929, daoine a cheapadh ar an bhfoireann atá in ann dualgais a bpost a chomhlíonadh trí Ghaeilge, ach na daoine a ceaptar a bheith láncháilithe ar gach uile bhealach eile do na poist sin.

Tá sé ráite ó shin i bPlean Stráitéiseach Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh 2006 go gcuirfidh Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh campas eiseamláireach, dhátheangach ar fáil trí fhorbairtí cruthaitheacha, eagraithe a thabhairt chun cinn i gcláir acadúla agus i gcleachtais oibre agus trí thimpeallacht fhisicúil agus shóisialta a sholáthar a bheidh in oiriúint don aidhm sin.

Ach tá níos mó ná dualgas i leith na teanga i gceist i saol na hOllscoile. Is í an Ghaeilge an meánteagaisc do chúrsaí áirithe i nDámha na nDán, na hEolaíochta agus na Tráchtála.

Tá acmhainn fíor-thábhachtach ag an Ollscoil i gcroílár Ghaeltacht Chonamara, mar atá Áras Mháirtín Uí Chadhain ar an gCeathrú Rua agus an tIonad Oideachais agus Cultúir i gCarna – áiteanna ina reáchtáiltear cúrsaí, ranganna, cóisir agus imeachtaí ilchineálacha eile mar chuid de chlár sealbhaithe agus buanaithe Gaeilge, a bhfuil de chuspóir aige an teanga a neartú agus a leathnú i measc phobal na Gaeltachta agus fhostaithe na n-institiudí poiblí a dhéanann freastal ar an nGaeltacht.

Contempo String Quartet Irish Tour

The Galway Ensemble-in-Residence is a project supported by a partnership of NUI Galway/Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh; the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and TG4; and assisted by Galway City Council, Galway County Council and Galway University Foundation.
The Galway Ensemble-in-Residence forms the cornerstone of a new Music Development Programme for Galway city and county that will bring the joy of music to Galway communities through performances, concerts, workshops and outreach activity.

At the heart of this activity is the ConTempo String Quartet. Formed in 1995 by four students at the Music University in Bucharest, Romania, the quartet has become one of the most celebrated young quartets performing today and their selection as Galway’s Ensemble-in-Residence in 2003 has created a unique opportunity for the development of music in Galway.

BETA CAE Systems Releases Version 16.0.2

BETA CAE Systems Releases Version 16.0.2

BETA CAE Systems has released version 16.0.2 of its simulation software quite. This maintenance release is focused on the correction of identified problems and issues for the ANSA and ?ETA software of the BETA CAE Systems suite v16.0x branch, for those who have not migrated to the v16.1x branch yet, the company states.

The 16x version of the ANSA pre-processor provides full compatibility with previous major versions. As with every major release, a broad range of new features and enhancements to existing ones add value to BETA CAE’s solutions, reinforce overall process consistency, accelerate user performance and provide a considerable boost on productivity, a company press release states.

The E?ilysis solver is the new addition to the BETA CAE Systems analysis tools family and is available with the ANSA /E?ilysis/?ETA suite. E?ilysis covers numerous solution types and intends to bridge the gap between pre- and post- processing for disciplines such as Structural, NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), Optimization and more.

The v16x version of the µETA post-processor builds upon the tools available in previous releases, now supporting an increased array of new interfaces including E?ilysis, the in-house solver of BETA CAE Systems, as well as enhancing the multi-disciplinary tools.

Bell Helicopter, Spirit AeroSystems Complete Fuselage Project

Bell Helicopter, Spirit AeroSystems Complete Fuselage Project

In its recent completion of the Bell V-280 tilrotor fuselage, Bell Helicopter/Spirit AeroSystems used HyperSizer from Collier Research to run its sizing, analysis and structural integrity applications.

The software was used to meet the V-280’s aggressive schedule for the Department of Defense’s Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator program. The unit’s design and prototype was completed in 22 months and will be used for its flight in the second half of 2017.

In addition to analysis capabilities, HyperSizer also provided the engineers with automated stress-report generation that enabled them to review and vet all relevant data in order to prove-out the structural soundness of the fuselage.

“The design-analysis cycle for a typical aircraft program requires many iterations between the designer (CAD) and the stress analyst. This is a very time-consuming process. The automated analysis tool in our software allows the stress analyst to define the required structural configuration, informing the designer about the best configuration that optimizes the stiffness of the structure,” says James Ainsworth, structural engineering at Collier Research.

Tecplot 360 EX 2016 Release 1 Now Available

Tecplot 360 EX 2016 Release 1 Now Available

Tecplot Inc., a provider of data visualization and analysis software, has released Tecplot 360 EX 2016 R1. This version, the company states, focuses on debugging most of the software’s existing capabilities.

These updates include easier license management, expanded polyhedral data support, improved animation methods, an all-new macro debugger and more Mac support.

“While there’s nothing sexy about license management, I think everyone knows it can be a hassle,” said Scott Fowler, product manager at Tecplot. “We’re using new technology called Activation Pro to alleviate that pain for single-user licenses. With Activation Pro, the user’s machine ID and license key are centrally stored, meaning our software will now automate many administrative tasks that previously were done manually by the user.

“We’re also proud to announce improvements to our software’s performance with polyhedral data. The CFD community is gravitating to polyhedral element types largely due to their tendency to increase the rate of convergence. We’ve spent considerable time improving our algorithms and rendering to better support polyhedral cells. Many of these algorithms have been made parallel while simultaneously using less memory, which allows our users to visualize and analyze larger datasets, faster. Early benchmarking indicates overall speed improvements of about 25 percent, with some operations being more than two times faster.”
