Tektronix Releases MDO4000C Portfolio

Tektronix, a provider of oscilloscopes, introduced the MDO4000C series of mixed domain oscilloscopes. These devices can be configured with up to six instruments in a single unit including a full spectrum analyzer.

This generation provides a synchronized view of analog and digital waveforms along with RF spectrum traces, which makes it ideal for debugging Internet of Things (IoT) applications. It also has added capabilities such as a spectrum analyzer, arbitrary/function generator, logic analyzer and protocol analyzer. A digital voltmeter is also available with product registration.

Overall, the MDO4000C family has features such as:

  • 20 Mpoint record length, up to 5 GS on all channels, >340,000 waveforms/s capture rate
  • Up to 6GHz spectrum analyzer with better focus
  • Logic analyzer timing resolution down to 60.6 ps and independent logic thresholds per channel.
  • Protocol analysis for up to three simultaneous buses.

COMSOL Releases LiveLink for SOLIDWORKS

COMSOL, a provider of multiphysics modeling and simulation software, has launched support for application development in the latest version of LiveLink for SOLIDWORKS. LiveLink connects Multiphysics simulations and 3D design in the newest iterations and lets users create sharable applications from the models.

LiveLink for SOLIDWORKS includes a bidirectional interface between the COMSOL Desktop environment and SOLIDWORKS software. This allows synchronization of the CAD design with the COMSOL model; it also lets the simulation control the CAD design parameters in the SOLIDWORKS software file. For even closer integration, the one-window interface makes the familiar windows, tools, icons and menu items from COMSOL Multiphysics available within the SOLIDWORKS software user interface, enabling users to set up simulations without leaving the CAD design environment.

The add-on also supports user-defined selections for an easier and more efficient simulation setup on the synchronized CAD design. In SOLIDWORKS software, the user can define selections, including bodies, faces, edges, or points, that are synchronized to the COMSOL model where they are available to assign materials, physics settings or any other model definitions. Users can also create selections from features of the Feature Manager Design Tree in SOLIDWORKS software, or from the components of the CAD assembly. Additionally, LiveLink for SOLIDWORKS can automatically generate and synchronize selections based on the material assignments in the CAD design in SOLIDWORKS software, the company states.

Keysight Technologies Expands UXM Wireless Test Formats

Keysight Technologies has added GSM, GPRS, EGPRS and TD-SCDMA, HSPA test capabilities to its E7515A UXM wireless test set. With these enhancements, UE developers can validate their multi-format LTE devices within a single UXM test set.

The new GSM and TD-SCDMA test applications allow fast-switching between W-CDMA, GSM and TD-SCDMA formats in a single UXM with just one transceiver hardware set. The new test applications also include the powerful GSM and TD-SCDMA X-Series measurement applications for comprehensive RF testing. The X-Series measurement applications allow engineers to quickly configure test parameters per 3GPP standards, or use the full range of X-Series capabilities to explore beyond the specifications.

“We are excited to add GSM and TD-SCDMA technology coverage to the UXM network emulation platform,” said Satish Dhanasekaran, general manager of Keysight’s Mobile Broadband Operation. “We have utilized world-class software from Keysight’s 8960 network emulation platform and X-series signal analyzers to provide our customers a simple and consistent measurement experience, while simulating complex mobility scenarios that represent today’s real-world wireless conditions.”

Along with expanded RF test capability, the addition of GSM and TD-SCDMA enables one-box LTE to 2G/3G mobility test including CSFB and SRVCC, with time-aligned, multi-format protocol message analysis using the Wireshark-based protocol logging and analysis software.

Infolytica Corporation has released a new version of MagNet for SOLIDWORKS, the company’s electrical field simulation add-in for the CAD software. This update, according to the company, includes a brand new circuit editor, updated libraries of steel and magnetic materials as well as support for SOLIDWORKS 2016.

This release, the company states, lets users add components and wire them together as desired to construct the circuit to drive their electromagnetic device. Voltage and current sources can be used to provide energy; probes can be used to review the response of the circuit.

The material library now includes:

  • Vacoflux 17 and Vacoflux 17 0.35
  • Ferrite, NdFeB and SmCo materials
  • Non-oriented steel materials

The mesh controls, material assignment and field visualizations have also been improved.

SABIC has released information on its development of polycarbonate (PC) windows with integrated lighting. While the company states that lighting can be decorative, it can also serve a few other purposes. SABIC showcased its new windows at the Symposium on Automotive Lighting in Germany this fall.

One use, a company press release notes, is a lighting component built into a lightweight polycarbonate window indicates the battery status of an electric or hybrid vehicle, from green for fully charged to red for critical condition. This feature could allow the driver to understand the state of battery charge without any need to enter and start the vehicle.

The company believes that lighting integration could serve as a way to provide other information to the driver. In addition to its new concept windows, SABIC current offers material families such as LEXAN, ULTEM, VALOX and STAMAX for the application.
